At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel, child safety is paramount. Our initial intake, orientation, screening, training, matching and supporting the safety and well-being of our children and volunteers is an intensive and important part of everything we do.
Dedicated and professional casework staff participate in ongoing visits, telephone support, interviews and reference checks with our volunteers and families. Each year, our children and youth have the opportunity to participate in summer picnics, major sporting events and concerts, summer camp, holiday giving, educational and recreational learning outings and most importantly, professional and immediate crisis prevention and intervention.
In 2004, we provided vital, preventative mentoring programs to 1,050 children and youth between the ages of 6 and 17.We worked with over 1,800 volunteers from local area businesses, community and student groups. Over 167,000 volunteer hours were committed to our agency and we raised an operating budget of $1.2 million dollars.
The United Way of Peel Region is our largest donor contributing over 40% of our operating revenues. The remaining dollars are generated through agency fundraising events, bingos, and foundation, corporate and individual support.
By supporting one of our six core mentoring programs you can be assured that your money will directly benefit the children. Choose to support a program, a match, a recreational activity or a fundraising event.
